Micromobility Sandbox Design Contest Submissions Page

Applications are due on April 19 and winners will be notified by May 1.

Rules related to Submissions:

Submissions are limited to 10 pages covering both locations with no more than 4 hand sketches, renderings or photo collages used to illustrate solutions.

Participants are encouraged to use a wide range of software or analysis tools in the design process and to summarize the results within the 10 page narrative.

The submission should address the expected impacts of the proposed design solution on safety and system operations (particularly at intersections) along with economic impacts on adjacent land owners.

Teams will have the option of uploading a 1 minute video to introduce your design ideas.

By the act of participating in and submitting an entry to this competition, you are providing ITE the right to publish all and/or portions of your submissions.

Eligibility:

There will be separate professional and student categories.

In order to be eligible for the student category, every team participant must be a full time undergraduate or graduate student. 

Teams can include an unlimited number of participants.  Collaboration between urban planners, engineers, architects, landscape architects, among others, is encouraged.

While more comprehensive solutions are encouraged, creativity and innovation are of paramount importance.

At least one member of the team must be an ITE member.

Evaluation of entries:

The top two teams in both the professional and student category will be invited to present their solutions as part of the ITE Annual Meeting in New Orleans and take questions from the audience in an interactive session.

While the presentation of the solution is important, it is the solution itself that will be judged.

 A panel of at least 6 judges will be established by ITE and will oversee both the professional and student competition.

Submissions will be evaluated on three primary criteria and their supporting elements:

Innovation, including

• Originality
• Creativity

Impacts, including

• Safety 
• Operations
• Economics

Applicability, including

• Transferability
• Adaptability
• Constructability

Prizes:

• One paid full registration will be provided to a representative from each of the top two professional teams.
• One paid full registration and travel expenses will be provided to a representative from each of the top two student teams.
• The designs from the two winning teams (professional and student) will be featured in an issue of ITE Journal.
• Other Innovative submissions will be highlighted in the ITE Journal and included on an ITE Micromobility Design Competition web page as part of the ITE web site.
